When air freight costs less than a missed deadline
8. August 2026
Air freight is expensive. A contractual penalty, a stopped production line or a lost customer is frequently more expensive.
The comparison
Set the air freight premium against three figures: the agreed penalty, the cost of a production stoppage per day, and the value of the customer relationship. Only when all three together come to less than the premium is waiting the cheaper decision.
Part shipment rather than the whole consignment
Frequently overlooked: you do not have to fly the entire consignment. Often it is enough to bring forward the part that keeps production running and follow with the balance by sea. That cuts the premium substantially.
What actually costs you the deadline
The flight is rarely the problem. Time is lost in handling, security screening and customs clearance. Preparing the documents in advance buys more time than the choice of airline ever will.
